MEET THE CAMP MANAGER OF DE HVIDE SVANER CAMPING

Dear reader, my name is Ole.

I have been part of the team since 2009, when I took over the lease of Svanemarked and Svanegrill at the campsite. Alongside the lease, I have served as site manager and deputy manager over the years. When a management change was needed in the fall of 2020, I was appointed camp manager at De Hvide Svaner, a role I have held since then.

I have worked in retail for over 40 years, the last 32 of which as an independent business owner in the same field. It was because of my background, my knowledge of the site and our guests, and my extensive experience with and understanding of customer service, that I was chosen to lead the future success and development of the campsite, in close cooperation with our owner and other staff.

Customer service is part of my DNA

I consider our most important task to be serving you, our guests. You show us the trust by visiting our site during your holidays. We are here for your sake, not the other way around.

We believe that we are never better than the last guest who left the site. Therefore, it is extremely important to us that you, as a guest, come directly to us at the reception if something does not meet your expectations, so we have the opportunity to change it immediately. Perhaps there is something wrong we are unaware of? Maybe you didn't receive proper information? Or maybe we need to set clearer expectations?

We would love to hear what you think about your stay with us - either by speaking directly with us at the reception or by reviewing your visit online, good or bad. Without your help and input, we cannot develop, nor can we strengthen what we want - the satisfaction of our customers.

The dream became a reality

De Hvide Svaner Camping was founded in 1972 by Countess Anita von Scheel Plessen and her son, Count Carl Alexander, at Saltø Estate. They both had a dream of turning this scenic piece of southern Zealand into one of the tourists' favorite camping destinations. And it is safe to say that they succeeded. Today, 50 years later, we have 85,000 to 90,000 overnight stays at the campsite each season—every year.

Today, it is Carl Alexander's son, Count Carl Christian, who, after the generational transfer, owns Saltø Estate and De Hvide Svaner Camping. Carl Christian is actively involved in the operation of the site year-round, so you will also meet him at the campsite.

A campsite in constant development

In 2022, we celebrated our 50th anniversary, and we did so on a campsite in rapid development. Over the past 13 years, we have invested more than 22 million DKK in the development and upgrading of the site to the modern campsite we believe we are today. 

Since the fall of 2020 and up until December 2021, we spent over 11 million DKK on, among other things, a complete renovation and expansion of our largest service building, which we now call the pool building. The pool building is conveniently located right next to our renovated outdoor heated pool, which is heated to 26 degrees Celsius from mid-May to early August.

With these investments and our other efforts at the campsite, we are very proud. From the 2022 season, our campsite was upgraded from 3 to 4 stars, making us one of the few campsites on Zealand to achieve this. Moreover, we are also GreenStay certified, meaning that as a campsite, we do extra for the environment, nature, and communication based on the UN’s 18 climate goals. 

Speaking of the climate, De Hvide Svaner Camping also has charging stations for 4 electric cars. So, if you are among those who have already invested in a hybrid or electric vehicle, you will naturally have the opportunity to charge it at the site.

In the 2023 season, we also opened the doors to our 10 new holiday homes, which are situated with a beautiful view of the fjord. The cabins have a touch of luxury, with their own bathroom and a large wooden terrace from which you can enjoy the water view. We call these new cabins "Fjord cabins" but we still have our "Camping cabins" which have been relocated on the campsite. Furthermore, in 2024, we added four new 6-person "Svane cabins" and we will be adding at least 3 more Svanehytter in the 2025 season, which we are excited to fill with camping-loving guests.

In the 2025 season, we will also be doing some construction work as we establish a new reception. Until it's finished, you will find us in the temporary reception building at Harevej 2-4, 30 meters inside the gate.

Although we have now passed the 50-year mark as a campsite, we certainly don’t feel old. We are fully in tune with expectations and the development of society and the camping vacation trend in Denmark.
